Time for a workshop (shed)

Gotten so fed up with having nowhere to play , i've decided to
hack down the forest that is the back of my garden and build
a workshop/shed , i've tamed the hedge (most of it) and the
brambles , but still have to remove a large tree , so am going to
borrow a large ladder and a chainsaw so i can make furious sawdust
and have an area i can build a concrete floored shed on !
I have several things i want to build , an electric bike being
high on the list , but storage of hobby items is vital to me and my
sanity as baby No. 2 will be arriving here in 8 days and "space"
will be even more scarce , i also need to have a bolthole for when
the smell of shitty nappies gets too overpowering !
Wish me luck , i'm going to need it guys

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

Haha, nice idea! I've got me one of them, but sadly it isn't mine!

My parents built my brother and I a fort out near our patch of trees, but lo and behold in a short couple of months it turned out to me more of a storage shed than a cool fort. :P

Good luck man. Hope you finish your sanctuary before you need it. Do you have plans for heat or electricity yet, or just trying to get the walls up?

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

Congratulations on the new baby nozza! I hope all goes well. Good luck also on your upcoming 'work' building. I wish I had a building separate from the house to play. My baby number 2 just arrived a month ago and she doesn't appreciate the sounds of files and the dremel while she's trying to sleep in the room above!

Grats on the new baby! must be a great feeling, and the new shed that is a smart thinking man right there. I know you may be over looking a few key points so I will fill you in with Guys Corner Advice: Get a mini fridge and fill it with beer. If you need electricity the fast way just run an extension cord from a plug outside house into your shed, then throw a power bar on the extension cord and you can run a fan, radio, laptop, all the goodies.

Cheers m8 lets see some pictures when the shed is done!

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

Thats a brilliant idea mate!! when you have little ones running about all over the place you really do need a little den you can escape to for a while.
I tend to just lock myself in the toilet!! (LOL) and you definatley need somewhere to go when them shity nappies start flying around!!!
We have got a little shed in our back garden which is full to the roof with all the kids bikes and garden toys, I would love to have my own
Well done on the second addition mate, just think of all them lovely sleepless nights your gonna have!! (LOL) Get that shed built quick mate!!!!

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

Rosindub' i don't know whether to laugh or cry ,
I am so happy about my son being born but i feel that i'm being penned in
and my wife thinks i'm not being objective , ie bathroom, kitchen both
need a refurb , which i can actually do myself , unfortunately our
home is a 2 up , 2 down SHOEBOX ! and space is at a premium .
Never argue with a pregnant partner !
I'm pushing the "Storage" issue , ie tools ,and "all that shit/junk
out of sight", she knows it will be a superb spot to "File stuff"
so fingers crossed .
I'm going to do it anyway so any good comparisons will help soothe
the grumpy wife into compliance

(LOL)

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

Congratulations on your second child. I know what you mean about space at a premium I am apartment hunting just to have room for my hobbies ( I have a few and they all seem to take up too much space) I hope your shed turns out to be a safe haven for you close to home.

Re: Time for a workshop (shed)

The dimensions for my shed will be 8ft x 8ft and 6.5ft high
with a workbench running down 1 side , electricity , vise
grinder , eventually a fridge and dartboard , lots of stuff to store so
i'll be looking to maximise the available space as i want to get a
couple of projects up and running !
Somehow i don't think mancave will be interviewing me in a hurry.

Funny, my dad puked his guts out for a week before I was born, according to my mom. And then I puked my guts out for twenty plus years once I started drinking.

Strange how all that works out.

Anyway, good luck to you with the new kid on the block.
