Day 225 of 366. Here's another padlock I saved from being trashed. The key was broken inside so they cut the shackle and replaced it with a new one. I extracted the key and used it for practice for days before finally opening it. It was many years ago. I can still lock it but when it opens the shackle goes flying.

Cheers :)

That's an additional safety feature now. I found a GeGe in a junk pile and recently a wilka without key with a most evil keyway in a second hand junk shop for 2 euro. Both a lot of fun to play with. I won't aks how locks can ever be trash, because I know which brand comes to mind with you guys.

Can you post pics of the locks and their keyways? I'd be interested to see what you found.

Sure. Let me know if you have any questions about them.

Great find edocdab!

Day 226 of 366. During my latest reorganisation I was going to throw it away but luckily I changed my mind. Today it was useful for my opening.

Cheers :)

Cool, thanks - both fairly standard keyways for those brands...I see that you've already got the Wilka open, kudos. Gege fairly often have wide open keyways (by european standards) but their bittings are often really gnarly, you virtually never see the flattish easy-beat sort of bitting common on domestic Aussie and American brands. Dunno why really, they have better MACS maybe?

Either way, nice classic euro locks to pick.

Michael.

Day 227 of 366. Small padlocks require small pick. I used TOK tension with one and BOK with the other.

Cheers :)

Now that the forum is back online I'll add the pictures of the missing picks.

Day 229 of 366.

Day 230 of 366. A souvenir from Greece. I know its made in China but I bought it in Greece.

Image

Day 231 of 366. A souvenir from Villach, Austria.

Day 232 of 366.

Image

Day 233 of 366. This Corbin G.S.U.CO padlock has a strong return spring. I needed to use more tension than I'm used to. It took me some time to understand how much tension is enough to overcome the spring, without blocking the pins.

Image

Day 234 of 366. Sometimes all you need to overcame an extra feature, if you examine it carefully, is a hairpin.

Cheers :)

Glad we are back online! Was looking forward to your posts Femurat. Nice locks and stories. Most souvenirs in the world are made in China I guess :)

Thanks! I missed the forum too...

Day 235 of 366. After the other lock, I tried with one that I never disassembled, just to be sure the technique really works.

Cheers :)

Is it the interactive element, some extra hidden pin or another feature you tackled there?

I was setting the interactive element.

Day 238 of 366. A strong return spring requires a precise amount of tension.

Cheers :)
