Re: Happy 2020!

I use the blue puck to set the sliders, the laser track on the side of the key.

Day 52 of 366. Everything in this picture has a story. I got the lock many years ago from a US friend.
Then I impressioned the key. I didn't have many tools, so I used a pair of pliers. Not the self locking, just standard pliers. I still remember how hard it was to hold the key bow while shaking it.
I didn't have a proper file either, so I wrapped some fine sandpaper around a round file to get a smooth finish in order to see the marks.

The tension wrench was a profile tension wrench I invented many years ago. The small bent tip is filed as the profile of the key. It goes in the back of the keyway so it leaves more room for the pick. I made a set with different shapes.

Cheers :)

Re: Happy 2020!

Nice to see all that. I think we all have such items with a special place in our history. It's a bit of extra work to make such a tensioner but it should give you much more space indeed. Cool stuff. I saw Tallan use a backside tensioner on tubular locks in a very similar way recently.

Re: Happy 2020!

Tallan Pick on youtube. I very much enjoy his videos. In this video he uses the tensioner: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gYUdFnaNzN8

Actually that one doesn't tension from the back but the shape is very similar. Not sure where I did see a tensioner like yours. Maybe it was Bosnian Bill.

Day 54 of 366. I couldn't open this lock with my favorite pick. I had to use a hook to set the shortest pin and finally open the lock.

Cheers :)

Day 56 of 366. This was one of my favorite warm up locks. Three pins and a quite standard keyway. The ideal lock that gives you confidence.

Cheers :)

Re: Happy 2020!

The inside lock of an old yale setup for me. 3 standard pins and great feedback. The outside is still one of my favorites with the clear feedback and spool pins. First security pins I encountered.

Oh yeah, and you couldn't tension too much with that tiny round slippery inside lock. That helped as well.

Re: Happy 2020!

Did you get that pick themed to match your hd? They look like they belong together.
