Amazing!

Didn't know where else to ask ...
In Germany there is a funny book about an author (written by that author) and an anarchistic kangaroo called "Die Känguruh-Chroniken". (If you understand German I highly recommend the first two and perhaps a halve books.) In this book appears a tourist girl, an air-head, which talks a lot without saying anything, you know, and that is totally amazing! One word which she really says often is "amazing". Last week I met in London a French girl living for a few years in London and the word "amazing" was really noticeable.
Now my question is: Where does this style of talking come from? Who is talking like that? Is it really a known style or is it just that famous for readers of this book?
If you could help me here, you know, that would be so amazing!
