Haha, yeah I first saw that site years ago.

One project I saw once that genuinely did look dangerous, was a 'death ray' someone made from a microwave oven. Old-school radio valves (tubes) were involved as well. Hoohoo, don't try this at home kids.

Microwaves of the strength in a household microwave oven are probably not gonna be dangerous for anything except possibly your eyes and reproductive organs unless focused. Which are bad enough I suppose :) but I'd be more worried about the HV supply for the magnetron. Around 2kV @ 500mA or more - an arc from that is blindingly white and melts anything in its path. Plus in the typical magnetron driver circuit you have a big capacitor - perfect for blowing a finger or hand off.
