Photobucket Frustrations

Cropping and/or re-sizing a picture in any way results in a fuzzy image.

Photos are taken with a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. My pictures are still crystal clear after they've been loaded into photobucket. But any modifications at all instantly turns 'em to shit. Even when I'm careful to keep the same proportions. Any thoughts? Is it just me? Thanks for any help/suggestions you may have (and you know the reward for helping me is better lock-porn)! lol

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

Hmm, not sure about that. I know imgur will resize the photo if it is too large (when you edit them in any way) so maybe that is what is happening?

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

I'm really not sure. I've always cropped and re-sized photos before and never
seemed to lose much clarity (as long as you didn't go crazy with it).

I'm gonna go check on the couple photos I edited yesterday. Photobucket
takes forEVER nowadays with even the simplest of things. Who knows,
maybe they're perfectly clear today. lol *shrugs*

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

Nope. They're still just as bad. I'm just really curious what's going on.

Riy, I don't think it's re-sizing them. Once in photobucket, they're still quite large. 768 X 1024

All the photos I've posted on here over the years were cropped and/or re-sized in photobucket.
In the past I might have lost a little clarity, but nothing like it's doing now. The ONLY thing that
has changed is my phone... from an S2 to an S7. Can't see why that would matter though.

EDIT: Some photos are stored on my phone and some are stored on the SD card in my phone.
I'm not too tech-savvy... but again, I wouldn't think this would change anything either. I dunno. lol

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

A cursory glance of some other forums seems to indicate that Photobucket changed what resolutions they display photos in. They may be resizing the photo for display(to save them bandwidth) and offering you back the full quality original if you download it as the Pro account holder.

I don't use it though, so I can't be sure. I'm happy to look a little deeper if you want to provide me with a link and maybe send me an original?
If you want to PM me I'll send you an email address or you could host the original on something like Google Drive or Dropbox.

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

So very kind of you to tryn' see what might be going on. I also appreciate your
offer to look deeper into it and I'd be happy to provide you with whatever links
would allow you to do that. BUT, before I use up anymore of your efforts, I
want to try a couple other things. After that, if it comes to it, I'll pm you to
see exactly what you need to tryn' help me.

In the meantime, I see you use imgur. I'd love to hear any thoughts (pros/cons) you might have.

Riy, you too. I know you've used imgur for some time now. You've also seen my photos here over
the years and probably have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for in an image hosting site.

If I were considering migrating there... do you think I'd like it? It looks to have a bit too much
'social' emphasis placed on it. But maybe I could use the settings to adjust that? I simply
want to have my own private gallery, re-size my pics, and link them to here (best forum ever :D)

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

If you want to post them here, why don'y you upload them here? It's easy and safe.

I post to other forums too and don't think it's fair to upload the pictures here and link them in the other forums. Otherwise I'd avoid the hassle to post them to a free hosting site and copy and paste the url here.

Cheers :)

You can keep them private, you just need to make sure that you click the right buttons when you upload them. You can also make albums etc. All of you pictures are in one big album and you can make albums from any of those pictures but they do not actually get transferred into those albums, they show up in both places.

When you modify an image at all using their tools it gets resized smaller which is unfortunate.

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

It seems to work fine for me. I haven't spent much time on forums and when I came to LP101 it seemed that is what everyone was using. I don't see any problems with the photos, but I also don't scrutinize it much. I don't use it for primary photo storage so I've never checked to see if they down size the resolution. It looks pretty clear to me.

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

Thanks for your input guys. Much appreciated.

So I've been experimenting over there a bit. I really like it.

I wish I had given up on photobucket years ago. It just seems
like they've made it about everything other than, well.... photos.
The entire site is sooo bogged down you can barely do even the
simplest of things. It amazes me so many people still use it. Or,
maybe they don't. Maybe I'm one of the few idiots left there. lol

A little more testing... but I do believe I'll be migrating to Imgur land. :fu:
I have quite a number of choice words for photobucket... but I will refrain.

Just make sure when you upload pictures your select the option near the upper right that says "Public" to say Only me and it will keep the album private instead of posting it on their main page. It also puts multiple images into an album automatically if you upload them at the same time.

You are very much not alone. Change is hard. Glad you are liking Imgur, it has treated me well.

Re: Photobucket Frustrations

So apparently the free images hosting website I'm using decided to change its policy and blocked my images. I'm a bit upset about it, because now I need to download the images, upload them somewhere else and edit all my posts to update the url.

I have 2 problems:

1 - I'm not sure if it's better to change image hosting website or upload the images here. As some of you may know, I post here and on another forum. Would be possible to upload the images here and then embed them in the other forum too? I don't know if this is seen as a bad thing by the forums owners/admin. Better ask first.

2 - I'm not allowed to edit my old posts. I think that once I have uploaded the images somewhere, I may ask temporarily permission to edit my posts.

This may be sent via PM to xeo or another admin, but I think I'm not the only one with this problem. I hope this post may be useful for others.

Thanks :)
