As a little kid of the '60s, I wore these a lot in the summertime. Somewhere in the mid '80s they lost their original name to a clothing item that became very popular. Does anyone know the name they USED to go by ?

Oh, I know the answer
(17:44:28) HAL 9000 Sez: LockSport is full of children who throw fits because low priced low security products sold in discount department stores do not meet their arbitrary expectations.
Re: Remember these...........then
Lol, yeah. I'll let the answer simmer a bit though instead of giving it away already to any members of younger generations who might not know it.
Re: Remember these...........then
yes, original name went to an undergarment. Then we called them flip-flops. Will let the original name sit after my hint.

And the houso's taunt wouldnt sound right if it had
"I'll flip flop you" sounds a bit wishy washy , lacks the punch

Since I was born a few decades before the mid 90's, guess I can't reveal that they were called 'thongs'. Oh, wait... I just did.

Re: Remember these...........then
I remember being annoyed when they started co-opting the word. For years initially we still called our flip-flops thongs, and the skimpy underwear we called "butt thongs" to tell them apart. Somewhere along the line the "butt" got dropped.
