Here's a funny scene from the movie 'Crime spree' that shows why good locksmith tools are not necessarily good burglary tools: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IHc90R97ac
In Watchmen the vigilante detective Rorschach uses a half diamond to jimmy open a couple file cabinet locks to get answers. One of the most practical uses I have seen in a movie that was successful. A whole utility belt full of vigilante gear and Owlman is totally helpless.
In the movie "Michael Clayton", one of the goons breaks into Arthur Edens apartment by picking the rim cylinder on the door. You see a very brief shot of the goon using a tension wrench and a pick to jiggle the lock a bit and pop it open.
1988 "Midnight Run" starring Robert Deniro he,s picking a lock and drops the pick good job too cos the guy on the inside blew a hole in the door as he bends down to pick it up,, (great film)
Also "Copycat" the pshyco picks the lock to break into sigourney weaver's appartment.
The only realistic lockpicking in movies I can remember is at the start of the movie 'Burglar' with Whoopi Goldberg picking two front door locks, even putting the tension wrench in at the proper angle.
