Got my new kit today and bought my first lock.
A master NO.3 padlock from a local store and managed to pick it within minutes and can now consistently pick it within seconds.
Looking to move on to other locks and give myself more of a challenge!

Nice job on your first pick! Glad to see you are doing well.
Here is a video that could help guide you toward some good locks to get when you are ready for a new challenge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI7Lx-73lU0&list=PLTSWkYxuSlkXiSBwk3Hvbvx71sg-MH61s

If you find that video helpful, here is a playlist full of great information for beginners.
https://www.youtube.com/user/bosnianbill/playlists

Also, this is the advice Oldfast gave me when I joined the forum. I found it to be very helpful and I think it could help you too.
To feed your hunger, here's the 4 essentials:
1. keypicking account
2. Youtube account
3. paypal account
4. ebay account
5. a vice

Ok, I lied.... five essentials. And don't forget to eat & shower from time to time

The Ebay account will be a great asset when you are ready to buy new locks. You will gain access to a wider variety than you will find at local stores, and generally you can get good locks at prices much lower than reatail price.

I can tell, first padlock I bought was £6.98 and I'm from Cumbernauld (What's it called?).
Going to give these videos a watch and purchase another few locks tomorrow.
Can see this becoming a bit of an addiction in the near future.

Aye its Cumbernauld....Gregories Girl....a classic!

I am Bo'ness so just over the road and also a newbie started in January this year so any time you are near here feel free to pop in and bring a couple of locks and we can have a picking session or whatever its called, I only have a few locks all have been raked but some have still to be SPP. I am around most of the time as now retired.

Impressive first picks mate. I think my first real pick since I got into the hobby was a cheap Home Hardware branded padlock of Master Lock type quality certainly not a couple of Abus'

Very nice first picks. To anybody first starting out I have quite a few Master locks and a few easy brinks which are a nice easy intro to spool pins. Message me if interested.

I know this won't be super exciting but I just picked my first proper lock !

a little ABUS T84MB/40.

Supposedly it has mushroom pins? If it has I'm fairly happy with that, with it being a small key way it gave me a few issues and I had to be rather forceful with my spp'ing which I didn't expect.

My first, the ubiquitous Master Lock No. 3. SPP'd with the short hook from my new Sparrows Tuxedo kit.

Congratulations! That a good set also for much more difficult locks in the future. You can refine your feel, try different techniques and have other fun with the nr3. In the meantime you can increase the difficulty with locks that are increasingly a bit more challenging. Have fun!
