Is this suitcase reasonably secure?

Could be Gordon. I haven't checked a firearm in luggage in over a decade. I always felt very conspicuous having the luggage tagged. I just hope that the requirement for the owner to be present if it's opened, is still in force.

any zippered siutcase can be opened with a ballpoint pen, lock or no lock. i agree with getting a pelican case if youre worried about having your things stolen.
if youre on a budget, these are a cheap, quality alternative to pelican cases: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_ ... horse+case

Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder, 'Why, why, why?' Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land; Man got to tell himself he understand.

I confirmed with a baggage service person that what Gordon is saying is correct. There was a problem with people waiting in baggage claim and watching for items that had the 'firearms' tag attached and stealing the bags. Now, it's all coded into the luggage tag barcode that the TSA can read. When they x-ray the bags and see a firearm, they can scan the tag and find out if the firearm was declared at check in. That way no one else knows which bags are carrying firearms.

I have an amazing grasp of the obvious. Beyond that, not so much.

So if you wanted to spot the bag containing a firearm..........you should look for the hard shell case with the non TSA approved lock.
Hmm.........Seems like a tag.
Luckily I don't have to pack anything worth stealing.
Dang near fly nude to make it easier to go through screening.

Seems to me that the one-time transport seals sold by securitysnobs.com
would be the way to go. If the seal is gone you know you need to fully check the contents of your bag-
Before you leave the airport so you can make a valid baggage loss claim. I have managed to not fly
since all this tsa bs began.
