How to remove a pin cap?

How do I remove the cap that covers the pins? On like one in ten locks it slides right off, but usually it's really on there. I've had no lock trying to push it out with a tiny screwdriver. Normally I'd just repin with a plug follower, but this is an Emhart and (as far as I know) it can only be rekeyed from the top.

Have you tried using a follower?
I would try that first before ripping of that cap.

If you want to take that cap off sit the cyld face down and using something strong with a sharp point like an upholstery skewer or anything with sharp enough point that won't bend easily. Use small hammer tap the skewer under the cap from the back end in the middle where it has that crease it will lift right off.

Another way (I think I read it on this site) is to use a piece of hack saw blade.

Put the teeth on the cover (teeth facing towards the back of the lock) and use a small hammer to GENTLY nudge the cover out far enough to be able to grab the end of it with some pliers. Then GENTLY ease it out.

The springs SHOULD not fly out but just in case, you could remove the cover while it is in a plastic bag.

Cheers.

You can not use a follower with Emhart cylinders because the pins interlock.
I use a small right angled hook to remove the slides.

I have not seen an Emhart with interlocking pins look like that.
If the key has notches on the bottom it is an Emhart with interlocking top and bottom pins.
If no notches on the bottom of the key just use a follower.

Lots of things to try! Once I get time I'll let you know.

The key has notches and the box says it's got interlocking pins. Once I get it open I'll let you know for sure. I really want to make a cutaway of this one, but I am not going to attempt it with dremel, I am going to wait till I have access to a mill.
