The Single Most Important Tool

If I were to ask each of you guys the following:

What is the single most important tool in your kit - that has proven itself time and again as the most cost effective item in your kit - what would you say?

For me, it is this little otoscope I bought on Ebay. This little guy is my primary tool that I go to. I use it to look inside the keyway and see how the pins are lined up with the groove in the keyway, as well as looking at what pins are set - and which ones aren't. I use it 100% of the time and it was worth the money.

What's yours?

I wish I had one of those! I just use the put the flashlight in your mouth and look down the plug trick! (LOL) I don't have anything special with my lockpicking stuff, so I'd have to say my tension wrench!

Re: The Single Most Important Tool

ooo now that's a real hard one.

For a lockpicking tool i would have to say a short hook, it just cannot fail

for general tools i'd have to say either gafa tape, pvc tape or my leatherman

I'd be lost without em.

Lockpicking: short hook

General: a hunting knife i got a while back... you can remove a layer off the handle and it has a bunch of tools that you can fold out... like a pocket knife on the end of a hunting knife...

Tricky... used to be I would say my short hook, but since I have gotten alot more practice spp'ing with the half diamond I have to say half diamond if only for the fact you sacrifice a tiny bit of precision for the ability to rake.

General use definately the multi tool. Gerber shortcut does the job when I can't have a tool kit. I'm too broke for the leatherman.

I gotta say the short hook. That is what I use 90% of the time I pick locks.

Another one for the short (feeler) hook. It used to be the half diamond, but I haven't used that is ages.
