Extra driver holes in a cylinder?

I have a few locks here that have extra holes in the cylinder, about 45 degrees clockwise form the normal pin holes / keyway.
The way I see it is if the cylinder is rotated the wrong direction the drivers will jam in these other holes rendering the lock useless, unless you can dissasemble it and remove the drivers out the top. I was unaware this security existed and I guess I'm just lucky I picked these clockwise so the cylinder rotated in the "safe" direction.

I can probably get a picture of this tonight...

Is there another way to "un-f#@k" a lock that has been jammed up this way? I might do it unintentionally on my other practice locks or new locks I get. Thanks in advance.

Re: Extra driver holes in a cylinder?

They can be used for that reason but are also for construction keying.

When a house is built 1 key is used. When the owner takes possession of the house they use their own key. this drops ball bearings or master wafers into those holes and the construction key no longer works. Since the holes are now filled there is nothing to worry about.
