Question regarding key pins

So I've got a 4 pin padlock that I'm tackling now I've had success with my practice lock but i have a little question.

When you manage to set a pin, am i right in assuming the key pin should become completely free to move - so essentially it should feel as if there's not a pin there at all?

I'm pretty sure it should, but i just want verification.

Thanks!

Re: Question regarding key pins

There is usually a slight bind on the key pin that keeps it held at the top. Once all the pin stacks have been picked they will float freely.
