Re-pinning Euro Cylinders

Hi Guys

I've been mainly picking euro cylinders, and to help me pick i've been gutting one end of the double ended ones to see what security pins are inside.

With a euro cylinder you cant use a plug follower, but i was thinking that prehaps i could use a very thin gauge of shim stock to hold the pins in as i re-pin it, then slide the plug in over the shim, then slide the shim out.

Do you think this would work and any ideas on how thin my shim should be?

One more noob question.... I'm guessing that if i just move the key pins around, i will have a new lock on the other end of the double cylinder, giving me something to immpression a key on and a new lock to pick?

or is there some reason i wont be able just to swap the pins about?

thanks in advance for your help

Re: Re-pinning Euro Cylinders

Try using cylindrical magnets, the same diameter as the plug, as a segmented plug follower. As you remove the plug, insert a magnet into the shell behind it, as you slowly remove the plug and make more space, keep inserting more magnets, making sure the polarity sticks the magnets together so you don't get driver pins jumping between the magnets.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense how I've described it.

Re: Re-pinning Euro Cylinders

as mbi says a segmented plug follower will do.... an easier option is to use a pinning shoe that holds the pins n springs in place when you pull out the plug....If the euro isnt going to be used in a door then do what I do and snap it in half then use it as 2 seperate locks

The tool Kokomolock uses is very nice!

This one might be another option:

Re: Re-pinning Euro Cylinders

Thanks for all the responses guys, you've been a big help. I'm going to make the tools suggested by kokomolock and imschatten, kinda had a similar idea in mind but didnt know if it would work, but know i do.

Also I like the ide of cutting the cylinder in half to mke 2 locks. I'm planning on mounting all my locks on a board so i dont have to keep putting them in a vice.

Keyicking rocks!
