American Tight Cylinder

I've been working on this lock for about a week and a half now. It's been grueling and pain staking even now as I type I feel the cramped hands of a day's work. The cylinder feels extremely tight even with the key and whenever I put even the slightest tension(none almost) the pins stay up when thought about. Any advice on what to do in this scenario for future and current reference. Once I start a project I have to finish it. Oh and in addition to minimal tension sticking they're your usual American pins, everything serrated... :serrated: :spoorated: :serkeypin:

Re: American Tight Cylinder

One thing I can think of is sometimes the screw the holds the cylinder in under the shackle gets tightened down too tight. Loosen it up a bit and try it with the key and see if that helps!!

Re: American Tight Cylinder

I thought of that when I watched one of your locksmith 101 videos, but I wanted to try and pick it as is. Sort of as a a challenge and also training for a non ideal scenario where I don't have the key. Also I don't have the right tools to take her apart lol.

Re: American Tight Cylinder

Sometimes those non-key retaining Americans can be a little tight, I've always found after I pick them I have to put a lot of pressure on the wrench to open them, but never to actually pick them, only after the pins are set.
