Well, I suppose it's about time I dust it off and start playin' with it then. lol
And I'll put ya on the list John (literally... I keep a notepad for shit like that cause my rememberer is broke lol)
But I don't think I've EVER seen one for sale, so to be honest, I'd be pretty hard pressed to let go of this one.

Yeah, that has to be RARE! Thats why I didnt even ask.

Re: PawnShop (warning: lots of pics)

An old FICHET warded bit-key lock. Any thoughts on this one guys?... or is it nothin' special really?

ImageImage
As usual, there are two latches... one in each hole. The major difference with this one though is this...
Each latch, in their respective holes, set at different depths. One is quite deep, the other, very shallow. So
they utilize the key's bitting not only at the end of the key (like we usually see) but also about midway down it.

ImageImage
Here's what kind of peeked my interest though. Just never seen this before. Anyway, haven't purchased it...
just told the pawnshop I'd bring it home and have you guys take a look to see what ya thought.

Was just looking at that first page and I noticed that the 826 you got has a Hi Shear cylinder in it. Notice how the bottom of the key is notched out?

Hmmm, guess I thought all of them (HI-SHEAR, 831B, 826) basically had the same cores.... a classic Medeco. What's the difference?

the core is the same, its the keys that differ. you can tell if ur core was meant for a hi shear by the notch cut out of the control key. cores meant for a 826/831/833 have the shoulders removed from the control key. so if u had to carve a notch in ur hi shear key, but ur 826 already has a notch taken out, then one could assume the previous owner was messing around and swtched the cores. Then made the mistake of locking the hi shear up.

Ok, you guys have got me curious now. I'll have to take a look at all my military locks after the other ones return from their tours (which is coming to an end soon).

Went to the pawnshop yesterday to check on a few things for a couple of you guys. Naturally, I couldn't resist grabbin' a few goodies for myself.
The Corbin on the left is yet to be picked. I think I've actually picked it a couple times... but the plug might require some jiggling to turn it.
The Corbin in the middle is a four pin tumbler... and it's just plain cool. I like it.

Re: PawnShop (warning: lots of pics)

Ball bearings, yes. Another thing I noticed right away is that the first pin is sunk in well over a 1/4 inch from the face of the plug.
So much so, that at first, I thought the first pin was stuck up something. Really a neat little lock though... don't know why it didn't
catch my eye sooner. Turns out, it ended up taking a fairly light touch to open.

Re: PawnShop (warning: lots of pics)

Some fun updates! All these pics were taken with my new Samsung Galaxy SII :D The picture, audio, and video are amazing.
So much so, that I just may consider ditching my small digital camera, and using my phone for all my lock-porn excursions!!

First up, three 'love-locks' given to me by my Angel for Valentines Day. She hit my favorite pawnshop without me knowing it :D
A bag of locks instead of a box of chocolates for Valentines day?!?! My god... I might just have to marry this woman!!!!
Yes, I'm FINALLY seeing someone.... and yes, I still stand by my statements in previous posts....
locks ARE less complicated than women! ...LOL... I love you Ali

Image
middle: CORBIN. Can never have enough of em'
right: SARGENT that is seized up in every way imaginable lol. Still though... a very old, and very cool lock.
left: Hands down, my favorite of the lot... a 6-pin HURD. On the back is engraved B.I.R. A.T.U. A3679.
It gave me a wonderful battle with some surprising twists along the way. I had two 10 minute fail sessions with it.
It wasn't until I brought it to the bathroom with me, that the HURD (and a turd) fell. lol

Later that day, we went a couple towns over for icecream. Afterwards we checked out an Antique shop across the street.

Image
I spent only $5 for these two! A wee little 4-pin ABUS No55/30.... and a giant laminated GUARD.
Haven't cleaned em' up yet, but I was able to impression a key for the Guard using an M1 blank.

Hit the pawnshop today. Originally, I was eyeing 5 locks... they wanted $10 each. Not a bad price, but I just wasn't in
the mood to drop half-a-hundred bucks. Catch me tommorrow, and I might drop 100 ...lol... but today I quibbled over 50.
Anyhow, I haggled a bit and walked out with these 4 for $35 ($8.75 each) :D

Image
CORBIN ............... AMERICAN ............ SARGENT ............... HURD

And here's two of the coolest YALE padlocks I've come across yet....

Image
Both are 6-pin locks and contain spools (or somthing similar). The one on the left gave me run for my money!
I've picked it a handful of times now, and still could not tell you the true binding order. The first 3 pins drop you
into a huge false set. From there, it's like a game of bop-em'. Set this... loose that. Set that... loose this.

Re: PawnShop (warning: lots of pics)

Man, those are great! I was going to go to some pawn shops with my girlfriend last weekend but we didn't end up going (went walking in a very nice park a short drive away instead) but now I think I will go! I really hope there is a pawn shop near me that has at least a few locks up for sale. Oh and good job on the girl man, she sounds like she is pretty damn cool.
