I had a question for Mr. Wizard under another topic as to why his photos were so good. He just seems to know fron experience how to shoot his locks for a great result. For the rest of us a light box might be the answer. I haven't built one yet but here is a link to a site that shows how to built a light box for cheap:

That is for disassembling passage sets, ie doorknobs with reversible handles.

It's a tool used to depress knob/lever retainers on cylindrical locksets. This particular one comes in USCAN locks.

Nice! And the couple saw-toothed looking tools in the centerfold? Excuse my ignorance (only way to cure it is thru questions, lol)

They're broken key extractors.

Now I have a question. What are the toothbrush looking thing and the hook thingy next to it?

Its a GM Pick/Decoder set. Once the wafers are lifted with slide tools on the right the comb is inserted to hold the springs up then remove the slide tool to allow wafers to be manipulated or vibrated into place for the sidebar to fall into gates. One turned you can decode the wafers to make a key with decoder on the left. Very cool tool. Bad part about the system is the comb fingers are subject to break very easy if not used carefully.

Very nice collection of HPC pick sets. As I am a HPC pick fan nice to see I am not alone on an island. I see you have Rytan too. I also have both the Rytan regular black handle and mini blue picks sets. Did you make the flat Z shaped tension wrench that is laying at the bottom of your working set in the first picture I like that one.

I really like the idea of this cheap light box. Very cool. I've been thinking of putting an online album together, so I think this would serve well for locks trades etc.

I haven't tried experimenting with background colors yet, but I was wondering if better results could be achieved with a solid black background rather than a solid white background. Any thoughts / experience?
