The Keedex seems expensive on the surface. But on a per key basis, it costs less than getting individual keys. Plus they are investment cast stainless instead of that crap the originals are made of. In the long run they are a much better investment. Now, do you need all the keys in the set, or do you own most of them already? That could also be a factor in making them cost prohibitive if they are "duplicates". I always kept both handy, the originals occasionally were modified for a given need, this expanded my change key collection and gave me some extra tools for future use. I was lucky enough to have a large collection of keys from the number of locks I was installing.

the kaba star does have a small thear in the rear portion of its cover, this cover protects the springs from flying out
I have never removed it (but I have on the penta and quattro plus)
