Some oldies we found cleaning up the farm

Greetings,

Thought I'd toss these in here. These are some old locks we found cleaning up the farm in various cubbies, pole sheds, etc. Three with keys, two without. Amazingly, the ones with keys still work!

No other info on them other than the one says "Excelsior 6 Lever", and the others are a Yale, Corbin, and one unidentified. They could use a good squirt of oil or graphite and cleaning but my wife likes the patina. Just thought I'd share. Bottom of the 6 lever shown, just because it doesn't even look like it takes a key but it's very similar to the Samson, just the key slot is the other way.

Amazing what can be found looking all around a farm or ranch. Found a geiger counter once at a ranch where I worked as a teenager. Asked about it, and found that the reason for it was because there was once two uranium mines on the property. We didn't have any cows with two tails and three horns, but you never know.

Nice. Most definitely cooler than anything I find cleaning up. Best-case scenario for me is usually a few 10 year old movie ticket stubs and a couple mismatched socks.

I love the bow on that old Yale. But the bitting sure leaves a lot to be desired, that's for sure! ...and I'm just nownoticing how much these old Yale padlocks look like the Green Lantern symbol. Now I need one that's actually painted like it!

Beautiful find.

You can oil them without damaging the patina, and it'll help prevent further corrosion and preserve the locks. Just don't use any acids, metal polishes or take a wire brush or anything abrasive to them.

Nice find! Some very cool looking locks there :). It's amazing what you can find out 'in the wild' :)
Gordon - That's a pretty cool discovery! Did you ever come across a mine entrance or were they all sealed up?

There were two entrances, both in remote areas that were fenced off, only with barbed wire fencing as can be found on most ranches. No signs, very innocuous. About 10 feet (3 meters) from the entrance, one of the mines was reading 6 rads. The other was reading a hair over 20. I stayed well away from that second one thereafter. Not difficult to do since our cows were not in that area.

Yeesh! You'd have thought they would put a sign up.. But then that may be asking for more trouble. Like the locks, amazing what can be hiding in plain sight.
I love these kind of stories. Thanks for sharing :).

Very cool finds! Glad you snapped some photos for us.

For the pancake Samson lock - I'm baffled & surprised
to see what looks to be a pin tumbler type key for it.
