Random Number Contest

POST 1 of 3
Good day folks,
I have an idea for a contest. Actually, more of a drawing with possible prizes IF a winner is chosen.

It works like this;

1. A picture of various locks that are available to be won is posted. Official announcement of contest beginning is given.
2. Members guess and post a single number from a given range (we'll start with 1-1000). Only one guess per member is allowed. Every member should choose a different number. If two members select the same winning number, the first poster wins. Edited posts are automatically excluded from winning.
3. At the end of a predetermined time period the contest is closed to new entries.
4. Using the random number generator on the right side of the screen at random.org I will:
a. generate a random number between 1 and 1000 (or any other predetermined values) to determine IF there is a winner.
b. generate a random number between 1 and X (X being the total number of locks available for that day's drawing) to determine the prize.
5. To assure a fair contest and continuity I will use screen capture video to show me posting a comment to this thread, displaying date and time, and generating the numbers.

There is NO winner if the first randomly generated number is not guessed. If there IS a winner the second number generated determines which lock is awarded. After receiving the winner's info I will send them a new lock!

Got all that? Please wait to comment until I make at least 2 more posts...please be patient, some logistics involved...

POST 3 OF 3

Thanks for waiting. It takes a little time to upload the video and make the link.
So, here is the link to the video showing the drawing is random and fair. You might need to download it to see a higher definition. This 28 MB video will self-destruct in 7 days.
TEST DRAWING VIDEO 1

If a member had guessed 65 they would be the winner. The number 8 was chosen next and would be matched to the prize lock. The winner would send me their address and I would send them the winning lock.

What do you think? Should we give it a try? Comments open now...

Re: Random Number Contest

Is this like a lottery where we need to buy tickets?
Where do the prize locks come from? Maybe we can take part by donating our old locks that no longer give us joy but would provide entertainment to a new owner.

I do think this idea has merit.

Re: Random Number Contest

There is NO cost to participating members.
For example, I would post a picture of locks to be won and the comment, "CONTEST BEGINS! GUESS ONE NUMBER BETWEEN 1 AND 1000. One guess per member. CONTEST ENDS IN ~24 HOURS." Members would post their number, contest would end, I would make a video showing the random number being generated, and then we could all see if there is a winner.

The locks are mine and I would pay for shipping. Adjustments can be made to make a winner more or less probable and increase the pool of potential prizes. If this proves popular we can work on a way to upsize the prizes.

:agree:

International postage could get a bit expensive, I would certainly be happy to pay for the postage if I was lucky enough to win.

Re: Random Number Contest

I'm not exactly slinging Abloys and S&G military padlocks here. My collection of picked locks is small. They are definitely on the beginner side of the spectrum.
I'm just trying to generate some excitement. The least I can do is give it a trial run and see what happens. :pimpmofo:
