How about cheap yet effective tool innovations, such as plug spinners, shown here? = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_6HhkYz ... re=related

I have a great Idea...

Make a kwikset difficult... or "high security" or just secure in general...
imagine you are pitching this "new" lock to a company... explain your ideas and how you would beat them if you can in a vid, show the lock and its enhancments... then send the lock to FF

FarmerFreak will judge all the contestants locks and attempt to pick them

each lock will be graded on a difficulty of 1-5 based on FFs pickability
and each vid will be graded on a 1-5 based on elbo and HCs grade (or any other agreed upon grader)

the vids will be graded on how clear the viewer can understand the ideas of the locks modification.

FF can watch the videos to see how the lock works... but cannot see the keys befoe picking (unless you show them in ur vid... thats up to you)

Highest score of 1-10 wins... if its a tie between several we will have to figure something out... idk... name a 3rd grader that will grade the tied winners in that specific instance... idk...

Ill offer up a neat lock for the prize...

PM me HC if you think its a good idea and we can discuss the prize...
(but i do wanna compete so i dont wanna be a grader)

LSA, that is an interesting contest idea. I'm not opposed to it, just a few things to throw out there if we go ahead with it. No Kwikset Smartkey locks, let's stick with Kwiksets standard 5 pin locks for modding. And Chris can not send me my modded lock back!!

HGow about we p[ick one lock to be picked in a max of 10 mins. the lock is wraped up and tpaed up and sent to the first contestant. they must open the package on film so we can see they have not practiced. if they pick it in 10 mins they go through to the finale. if they dont pick it in 10 mins they are out. once they have picked it they wrap it up and send it on to the next contestant. once everyone has had ago, the person who picked it the quickest wins?

what do you think?

Would take months for the lock to get around all contestants ........it would be a year long comp

In regards to "The Kwikset Challenge," can we add trap pins and stuff like that. I know it was mentioned that it should be a 5 pin lock, but why not go crazy? There should be a deadline to manufacture the lock and send it to FF also. That way there's no copy cats sending lokcs to FF after he has picked a couple.

How about.... a Medeco Original/Biaxial raking contest.... using turkey basters....

On a more serious note...

Shimming contest?

Raking contest?

Picking locks with intentionally unefficient picks like a double ball on a medeco?

Using a 5 foot tension wrench?

Putting your pick in the vice, and then picking a padlock? (I've tried this, its not easy)

One-handed picking?

Bobby-pin / Paper-clip picking?

Picking with gloves on?

Innovative tools contest?

Technique/method teaching video contest?

Picking while driving? (Don't pick and drive, its the LAW)

Picking while intoxicated?

Picking under the influence?

Rip a line of coke then rake open an ASSA Twin with a postal pick

...

Making a pick out of a baseball bat and then pick open a lock while wearing a catcher's mitt?

Pinning a lock on camera and then picking it <------ i like this one

Picking open toilet paper dispensors in public restrooms (fastest time)

Everyone buy a Brinks Brass 5-pin and pick it out of the sealed package on camera. Fastest time wins.

Speed-picking (SPP ONLY) a fully pinned 5 or 6-pin (fastest time wins) <-- this would be really fun.

Would it have to be a Kwikset cylinder, or just a KW1 that works the cylinder ?

Good question. I was thinking specifically a kwikset cylinder, not just anything that a KW1 would work in. I do think it could give an unfair advantage to anybody using a solid brass cylinder/housing. Even so, I haven't been to the hardware stores to even know how easy/difficult it is to get a non-smartkeyed kwikset. So if it meant more contestant entries, I'm all for it.

If we do go for this competition. Maybe we should have a vote on if solid brass KW1 cylinders would be ok.

I've seen Kwikset Ultramax 6-pinners at Ace/True Value stores.

But it would also be cool to have some kind of picking contest.
Some of us are not into making locks tougher but picking the tough locks that are out there :-)

i would say the locks you start with need to be made by kwikset cause those are the worst made locks i could possibly think of... there are some nicer made kw1 locks that have better tolerances... i think that would be kinda unfair...

id limit it to any pin tumbler lock made by kwickset... doorknob or rim or mortise even... but it should say kwikset...

and a key should work the lock when your done (keys can be modified aswell)
