New Contest Suggestions

Ok, I'm taking suggestions for a new future contest. If you have a good idea, post it!

  1. Whoever donates the most money to the site, wins!
  2. Best picture related to lockpicking made out of construction paper, glue, and elbowmacaroni.
Okay, not really.

In all seriousness, It would be cool to have a contest on the most creative way to open a common lock, like a Master 140. Not only may we discover some really interesting or funny methods, but a lot of users would be able to compete since the lock is so widely used.

Edit: I'd also like to suggest a contest on who can make the best and most informative tutorial and provide it in PDF form. Grammar, diagrams, and ease of understanding could all be qualifiers. With various tutorials being created, they could be compiled into a keypicking book or something similar! It would be a great asset for the site to have.

I like the last idea - as that would be something that would be helpful to all. Let's have some more ideas like this one guys...

Usually, once you get past puberty, a person gains a certain level of maturity. Obviously, you still have a few more years left to ripen up a bit.

And no you can't wear a red thong.

+1 on the tutorial, but I think it should be a video tutorial. Most learn easier watching something done rather than reading about it!

Re: New Contest Suggestions

I'm in agreement for the tutorial as well. I also agree with Kokomo on it being a video with actual demonstration and explanation.

Re: New Contest Suggestions

cant say i agree totally... sure a video tutorial would help alot of people... but not as many people could participate... it think ANY tutorial should be accepted video or pdf or whatever you like. (lock related)

Re: New Contest Suggestions

The idea for a tutorial is a good idea, however like LocksmithArmy said, it should be more of an open ended option. I don't think it should be limited to a specific category, but more on ease of learning, presentation, and professionalism. The idea could definitely use some melding.

I love to learn new things, I think a tutorial is a great idea. Now if we can just get enough people to participate!

Re: New Contest Suggestions

I like this idea of a tutorial as well. A PDF format would make it super easy to combined multiple entries together for one file.

Re: New Contest Suggestions

Not sure if I had heard of people doing this somewhere else, or if it's already been done here before, but how about a somewhat long running contest.

Step 1: People sign up for contest in post

Step 2: Someone throws together a frankenlock of biblical proportions

Step 3: Said someone picks said lock on video and guts it to show all original pins.

Step 4: Said someone sends said lock to next person on the list

Rinse and repeat until the lock gets back to it's owner. Shortest time on camera wins.

It's a little restrictive because it limits the amount of people who can participate. If you give each person a week to play with the lock and just 10 people sign up it becomes a very slow moving contest. We could have 2 copies of the original lock floating around amongst participants to cut the time in half, but you get the idea. Think World Cup rather than the Super Bowl.

I suppose it also assumes you're willing/able to send a potentially heavy lock to the next person. We are a pretty international site so some logic in how we determine who goes next would ensure the lock crosses as few oceans as possible to minimize total shipping costs. if money was no object I'd want to send around something like this: http://deviating.net/lockpicking/pandora/ but it's clearly impractical to do so.

So it's not really a substitute for other contests, just something else that could be going on in the background over a month or two. Results would come in slowly.

Like I said it just came to me as I was reading through the posts so I don't know if it's been tried before and failed miserably or what. Could be fun though. Albeit very slow fun.
