Re: "Forever Lock" - Ridiculously Awesome Design (Pics + Vid

The picker in me likes the design, the locksmith in me doesn't.

Here is the problem, most of the impressioning ideas in this thread probably aren't exactly going to work very well. More to the point, they may end up leaving small bits of whatever the impressioning material is inside the lock. Resulting in a lock that no longer works, and without a way to get access to the keyway, impossible to get the pieces back out. In other words, anybody with a toothpick can render this lock permanently broken/locked.

But yeah, from a lock picking standpoint!

700K+ views !!!

Well done.

The manufacturer should give you a few of them for all the free publicity. :D

WOW!

This thing has really taken off, I have thousands of e-mails!

The funny thing is I made that video just to show you guys and it turned into a huge advertisement!

I am speaking directly to the owner of the company and he has allowed me to sell his lock and even help with some re-branding to fit the non-asian market.

The only problem is~ he doesn't have stock currently. The one I got for the video was an extra one he had from a previous production run, and he wont have more for a month or more.

I will try my best to set up a system/web-store where interested parties can place an order soon.

Honestly the manufacturer was just not prepared for this type of international demand. It was totally unexpected!

Hopefully supply will smooth out in the next few months!

Re: "Forever Lock" - Ridiculously Awesome Design (Pics + Vid

That is really cool. Any chance you can get them for a discount due to all of the advertising you have done for them? :D

Your video is going to easily surpass a million views and if even 1% of them want to buy a lock that is still 10,000 sales.

Re: "Forever Lock" - Ridiculously Awesome Design (Pics + Vid

I'm curious if this is a modification of an existing lock or if it's all custom. The former I could forgive but there are simpler ways of going about it, namely leaving the keyway temporarily accessible, but disabled. This would also prevent the lock from being easily disabled as Farmerfreak mentioned.

Also, while the mechanism does prevent picking, the lock is still potentially susceptible to bumping.

You make a good point regarding foil impressioning running the risk of leaving debris stuck inside the lock. I would be interested to know why you think traditional impressioning, using a key blank would be unlikely to succeed.

Two more impressioning attacks : using a blank key cast from lead or another soft metal/alloy, to present a surface that takes marks more easily and taking a normal key, machining away the whole bitting surfaces to just below a full cut depth cut & reforming these areas using JB Weld. Oliver Diedeichson has demonstrated this technique & whilst I haven't tried it, it does seem very effective.

That may work. Have you ever tried to get impressioning marks without lifting/pulling on the key? I'm not going to doubt that pins will leave marks from the twisting action alone, but distinguishing real marks from fake ones would likely prove very difficult.

Especially if they upgrade the lock with one or two of an Ilco's style bump halt pins/springs. If they did then those positions would inevitably leave false marks from the extra spring tension. That would also stop most (all?) self impressioning methods.
