Re: Chubb, Royal Mail Pillar Box lock

Just an up date on this spent two hours on this pillar box lock today and went abit more prepared for the job from the photos i was sent i prepared a drill card and was right on the money...all 5 levers were lined up with a wire directly opposite the stump the curtain was rotated first so the lever that sits on the notched curtain would not cause any problems.... but guess what , the bolt would not budge any ideas on this looks like its seized up...sprayed in with a shit load of wd and left.
explains why i failed picking it so i have some comfort in that.
I,ll put the size of the lock here: 85 x 130 x 25mm ... i think it may be help full to someone one day as these old post boxs have been shipped around the world.

Had the chance to play with two of these locks today one with key one without i wanted to cut a key for it so took this time to document the levers in both locks,
the levers have no numbers stamped on and i had no reference to work from....so i made one and a key that works.
great when a job works out but i dont like cutting steel keys at all

Re: Chubb, Royal Mail Pillar Box lock

Hi, I've joined here due to these pics found on Google. I have to go back and open one of these on Monday. Can I ask what the secret inside was?
Can I also ask if the lock can the lock be shimmed and if so does the curtain lock lever need to be raised to do it.
They look a very easy pick but the levers on my customers are stuck together so it needs some maintenance first.

Re: Chubb, Royal Mail Pillar Box lock

Thank you for your help, the one I've got to open is a set in the wall one which is on its back, the lever pack is stuck together and needs freeing so bypass will save me a lot of time. It's around 6' tall and 4' square so it must have been a busy one.
Thanks again.
