Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

I picked this off of ebay a little while ago, it's an all brass, American (old style logo) padlock.
The Key has American stamped on one side, and Junkunc Bros on the other side.

Apparantly, American Lock used to be known as Junkunc Bros American Lock Co.

The lock itself is all brass, key retaining, there is no spring on the shackle or on the key return. This one is five pin. It is also stamped U.S. on the back.

Re: Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

I haven't spent too much time with it yet. I will tell you that this lock gives very very little feedback. Even when using the key you have to crank it right to open it. So feeback from the tension bar is minimal, and the bitting is pretty evil too, damn low 4 pin and high 5th pin.

Re: Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

I have had a few and picked a few others that they had, they can be tough as hell. Some do open right up though. I think the biggest problem I have had with these is that if they don't have a working key, they are usually full of junk, most need to be cleaned up a bit. My womans father has a bunch from his military days. Pretty good locks really.
I have been in the souls of many women, but I always end up on the soles of there shoes.

Re: Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

This is truly one of my all time favorite locks, both to collect and pick. (mine all had serrated drivers and keypins.)
Nice score!
A small bit of trivial knowledge: ALL U.S. Military locks are key retaining. it is a specific requirement to meet guidelines.

Re: Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

I haven't been able to see what is inside the core, not sure about getting the core out. There is no retaining screw on the inside, and I dont want to drill it. Any advice on how you got yours open?

Re: Old American/Junkunc Brothers Lock

Those are definitely serviceable, we have some old cylinders/keys. The cylinders have a threaded hole located on the backside of the upper pin chamber.
