Hope this section is ok for this. Had a customer come in a couple years ago with a strange Kwikset key. I had none so I ordered a bag of 10 and he never came back of course. I found em the other day and was hoping one of you know of or even have a lock that this blank fits. The blank number is Ilco 1176D, a regular KW-1 is Ilco 1176. I don't know if this key is pre or post 1176. Any info on the key or the lock it fist would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, is that actually a blank that fits a Dexter?

Only thing I found on this key blank was that it is a "special blank" I think it is old and no longer used.

the ilco# for it is 1176D but believe it or not, i found 1 source out of ten that didnt know, that its EZ# is KW2! I found it here...

the only thing else i found on it was this stuff...

"A KW5, which is also an A1176, is a 5 pin key with an oval head.
An 1176D is a special Kwikset key that I'm not sure is even used any longer.
A CR1176 is a 6 pin version of the KW5.
An S1176 is a KW1 without the 'K' in the bow.
An 1176RK is a rekey tool for use with Kwikset Titan and Ultramax locks."

you might have to call Kwikset for this one hoss.

I asked the older guys here about your key. Their reply "It's just an old kwikset, nothing special, just an old one." Then he went on to tell me that on the entrance handles with those cylinders. The cylinders were just pressed in (think of a mortice cylinder without threads...), so you could take a small screw driver or two and pry the cylinder out. Unlock it and then press the cylinder back in.
