Old, Rare, Interesting And Unusual Locks

I managed a motel where these would have been recomended! I operated an older motel that still used pin tumbler locks, not the cards. People were always driving off with the keys, I had to have the locks repinned all the time to keep our guests safe. I have even been walked in on with a room with a key card, the front desk rented the room twice because they didn't do the paperwork. I carry a pistol with me most all the time, I am a little spooky on things like this, I would hate to blow a hole in somebody for a mistake of another person!!

Here is my Flea Market find, Old Yale and Towne Padlock. Bought it cheap because it had no key with it, but I took it to the shop and made one. The amazing thing is it works like it is brand new, they just don't make em like they used to.

Great find! I saw a couple of these in a flea market a while back and they wanted over a hundred apiece for them! How was making the key for it? I have heard that it is a fairly hard job on some of these.

I cheated. The two pin heads you see under the "YALE" pop out and the whole bottom of the padlock drops out. I could see all the levers and made a key that way.

That looks like some sort of old prison lock, with the chains and everything, is there any visible writing on it anywhere?

yea the brass plate on the front says lever patent w.3350 that is all i will try toget better pictures soon.

A lock I found in an old box I had in the garage. The interesting thing about this lock is the plug does not turn and release a latch instead the shackle is held shut by the pins themselves. when the key is inserted the shackle is free to move and the plug moves in consequence as the two are welded together.

That lock sort of looks like an old wafer Yale that I have, but it works like a regular lock. Weird mechanism on that for sure, never heard of it.

From what I have been told, Slaymaker locks were popular back in the old days, I haven't seen any but an old man I know swears by them. Wierd key on that thing though, is it a wafer lock?

No it is a warded lock.
