And last but not least - the American, hand made, 10 lvs lock - the grandaddy of all the 1105's running around nowdays.

also the lever lock with the #9 keyhole...i have a very similar one marked GW wock.
what does the insciption say on the shackle of yours?
i am awaiting a blank to key mine up by smoking / impressioning.

I saw a couple old lever locks at a big flea market the other day, they wanted a hundred dollars for them, way too much for me. What sorts of tools does a guy have to own to pick these old lever locks?

The one w/ the 9 keyhole has "JHW Newark, NJ USA" inscribed on it - and the number 48 on the other side of the shackle.

On the shackle mouse ears, the American has "10 levers", some worn lettering w/ "2091" underneath..."American Lock" in script on the lock face, and "Hand Made" on either side of the keyway cover. The cover itself has "10 L.V.SC.L." with the last letter worn.

Interestingly, the lock has a trick to lock. If the cover is not rotated 180 degrees vertically, you can never lock it. Once you flip the cover up and turn the key to lock it - you'll feel the key grab and slightly push on the cover - locking the shackle. It took me a 1/2 hr to figure that out.

As for the Model 6 Admiralty locks, one has the number 17 on the left mouse ear and 1836 on the other. The other lock has "1011" and also 1836. Both say "Locksmiths by appointment".

I've started to keep an eye out for older locks and keys lately, and started off with this nice little 6 lever padlock I picked up off ebay. It didn't come with a key, but it's in the open position and looking at the bolt it should still work if I had one made. The only thing about the bolt is that it appears to be very small.

A beautiful old Ford™ tractor Padlock, with a Hurd™ 5-pin keyway...(Ilco D1125 keyblank)
this lock was found on White Bear reservation,at the dump.
a bud was kind enough to ask his bud who found it at the dump to send it and he did. =)
a VERY hard lock to pick...5 pins,no securities,and an easily accessible keyway profile,
but just one of those locks that just will not give up its secrets easily..=/
i thought i would pop it in seconds,as i do with most locks of this type,but wow,was i in for a surprise...

So, thats just an extra door lock, for more security or what? I have never seen one of these!

I've seen those Yales on eBay quite a few times. I think the idea behind it was that you'd carry this with you when traveling and use it on doors at your hotel or motel room - as additional security. You know, in case some one had a duplicate key to your room and decided to sneak in at night and lift your wallet and valuables.

This was probably something pitched to the public during the late fifties, early sixties.
