Hi,
I am new to the site and new to locks. I purchased an old (1938) house and there was a safe left in it. Probably too heavy to move. It is locked and the previous owner has no idea what the combo is. The safe had belonged to her husband. I would love any information you have on the safe. In the meantime I am doing lots of reading. Thank you!

A nice straight-on shot of the lock/door would've been ideal. Your safe may be a Victor. Does the dial have a 'forbidden zone', blank space between 100 and 20? Is the opening index a 'star' ? If not a Victor, then it may be an Ely-Norris or ..........

It looks to be a Marvin chrome iron spherical safe from around 1865. Marvin was the first manufacturer of cannonball safes from what I understand. Please take some better pictures. I would love to have it in my collection. Here is an online picture.

Here are some more pictures. The safe dial moves smoothly. I would love to figure out how to get it open without doing any damage, but the more I read the harder safe manipulation sounds.

Getting a better look at the dial there is a blank or "forbidden" area from 70 to 0. The dial stops counting at 70 and it is just blank until it gets to zero. Also, On the sides above the wheels it is imprinted "Marvin's Safe Co." I am just learning lock manipulation and as anyone here already knows it isn't something easily picked up. It does have 3 wheels and I have messed around trying to graph the gap tolerances, but learning on an old lock that I can't see isn't easy. Any advice is much appreciated.
