You could try electrolytic rust removal. It would get rid of the rust without damaging or altering the rest of the remaining metal. Then you could oil it up to preserve it. There is a great how-to thread here on the forum for the rust removal.

MBI would that also remove the patina? I havent played with electrolysis but I have used solvents which remove rust and found those to remove patina as well.

It would preserve the surface texture of the metal so it wouldn't look like it had been sanded or hit with a wire wheel or something like that, but no more patina.

I just learnd something, a SPOOL to hold graffite, never heard of that before, whiced idea tho. I just learnd something today, now I can go to bed !! ya I know my spelling sucks , but you know what I meen
