Corbin RFC Padlocks

Wasn't sure where to post this question, but this works for now.

I have been looking for a PL5000 for a few weeks now and the Corbin Russwin product literature shows the RFC model uses a 2300 series core. But i have seen many places selling them with what looks like holes drilled up the side of the Padlock body and a bag of pins, springs and brass plugs!

I'm guessing these are cheap Chinese locks that people are selling with Corbin packaging, but i have seen it so often that i wanted to confirm what the format of the lock should be. Heres a photo from the CR website and a couple of the photos i found of the suspected knock-offs!

Thanks

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

Nope, Corbin does indeed make those locks. They might be mistaken in model numbers though.

I think I have one on hand and a couple with keymaster1053.

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

Thanks Riyame! OK so next question is how do i specify the model that uses a 2300 core when ordering?
The other ones that are "assemble using hammer" look really crap! some of the photos of them i have seen are terrible QC and certain nothing like what i expect from CR!! Also i wouldn't pay $20 for one of them, let alone the $85 list price.

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

I just got a Corbin LFIC padlock from Riy/KM the other day. I also have the fixed core versions, both old and new.
All the pics you posted are legit.
The part numbers are:
PL5000R, PL5100R, PL5200 for RFC (which is just a KIK cylinder with a bible cover)
PL5070, PL7150, PL5270 for LFIC.

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

Its kind depressing to hear that Jeff! If you look at some of the close up photos of the padlocks which you hammer together... the Quality is appalling!

No way is that worth the list price of $85!!! its a piece of cheap crap made in china and Corbin Russwin have made a huge mistake selling those things... its not worthy of their name.

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

I got a Sargent padlock from Riy yesterday that I may have you make into a cutaway, since it has not been assembled yet.
I'll take pics to show how nice it is.

Re: Corbin RFC Padlocks

Also, just to confirm - the 'hammer together' locks are NOT what Corbin offers currently.
The PL5000R is a very solid lock that takes a 2300 KIK.
