Re: Need new pciks

I hate to say it, but when it comes to getting picks, I'm not very fond of pick sets. I would only invest in individual picks. I havent heard much about majestic, but i am not a big fan of southord picks. I personally find that of all production picks, to go with Peterson and government steel if possible. Additionally, welcome to keypicking.com, i hope you have a good time while you are here

Re: Need new set

What do you have currently? 32/37 pick sets seem a bit... excessive.

Re: Need new set

For me, Southord are ok, decent, middle of the road picks. For their cost they deliver good performance, feedback, etc.Well, the slimline versions anyway - I've never tried the normal type. But they won't last forever. Not like like your Petersons or Falle.

Majestic fit into a similar category IMO but I've found them to be rather brittle at times. They offer similar performance to Southord but without the lifespan (not that Southord last that long anyway).

I'd go with the Southord set personally.

Re: Need new set

i have a SouthOrd XPS-14 wanted to add some slims and a get a larger case
my logic:
for the price of buying just a case and buying single slim picks it made more sense to buy a lager set with what i wanted

Re: Need new set

Southord slim everytime

Edit: make sure to buy the set with laminated handles, the c2010 set has 1 of each pick type and hasn't got duplicates like the larger sets, the duplicates don't have handles either

Re: Need new set

That Southord set is nothing but duplicates. 15 picks with metal handles, the same 15 picks with normal handles.

Sparrows sells a really nice large case for ~12 bucks. Peterson sells fancy leather ones for ~30. You would really be better off buying a larger case and then buying a smaller slimline set or individual picks.

I can't speak personally to the quality of Sparrow's picks. I've heard nothing but good things about them though.

I do own the new Sparrows Sherman case. I like it a lot. I actually replaced the Peterson Master's Tri-Fold with it.

I have some (the Wizwazzle set), and I've been pretty happy with them. I would definitely go with Sparrows or Peterson over HPC or Southord. I don't have any experience with Majestic picks.

The Sparrows & Peterson picks are ready to go right out of the box - the HPC & Southord, not so much, IMO. That's not to say that they're "bad" or anything, they just might need a little sanding/polishing.

Re: Need new set

It's 6.5x4x1.25" closed, 6.5x9 open, and can hold a pick 5.25" long (maybe a little longer, but not much).
