Very Nice Pm.

I have a Baofeng UV-5R coming if it ever gets here. Fiddy bucks so I figured WTF. No License yet as they aren't testing till next year. Gives me time to prep for the test I guess :???: Been trying to get one of the local ham guys to pull some strings but no luck. I also have a 30' GAP Antenna I picked up for free from a customer sitting in the backyard waiting to get mated to a base unit but that will be a while unless I find a bargain on Kijiji or somewhere. Total virgin noob at this Ham stuff so I have a hell of a lot to learn don't be surprised if you get a lot of PM's asking stupid questions.

ETA:
No sooner did I finish typing this and the mail showed up with my radio.

Also edited my comment so It didn't look like I hijacked yours Phoneman. My Bad.

They finally improved the antenna on the 5R! that was it's only weakness, the old style was super easy to break just by flexing it. yours has the same style as my UV-82. as far as testing goes, the FCC (US) and IC do it differently, no clue how the testing goes in Canada, but I'd bet there are similarities.

I wouldn't be surprised if we take our cues from the US regarding standards just as we do with most things with a few exceptions. Reception seems good for a handheld also, no problems picking up Oswego WB and Northern New York broadcasts although that may be repeaters. Having a hard time finding traffic even though I have all the freq. for gov. and private services! We tend to text around here judging by the cops and FD. I am tempted to get an HF like yours now (a little jealous) and get the GAP antenna set up so I can get some serious distance.
