Just passed my Amateur Radio license exam (tech level)

Got a 35/35 score.

Now I'm looking for a good starter rig. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've been looking around at various reviews over at eham.net but it's so tough to decide.

A family member built the transmitters years ago,no bigger than a shoe box,for pirate stations,which had a to be well hidden,from the dti.
needs to be fan cooled and crystal phase lock looped.
This sets it to the band-freq you,ll be allowed to use when you have the licence in your town or city, welldone.

so it will be jingles making time,and you,ll need advertising rates,we use to do raves in the 80,s.

congrats! what is your budget because that will determine the type of rig that you can get. also are you looking for a HT or a mobile unit. if you get a mobile would you put it in your house or your car/truck

As a starting budget I'd like to keep it under $300 (incl. accessories) but I'd prefer less than $250. Right now I'm looking at HT units but eventually I do want to get a mobile rig for my car eventually, so if you have any suggestions on that I'd appreciate it too. Based on reviews and price, I've been looking at the Yaesu FT-60R. Is it a reasonably good starter unit?

that is a good starter radio. when/if you get that get a small magnetic antenna for it so when you are mobile you can get some better range. they are only like 25 bucks.

Make sure it has the right connector for the antenna on your radio you might need an adapter

I might suggest for a HT Wouxun KG-UV2D this rig is very nice, easy to program. You can program by hand or computer.Software is free.The cost is well under $150.00
I have one and love it. I also have the FT60 it is also a good HT, but harder to program by hand. lol it can also be done by computer. Just do some research on the type of unit you want, and what you will use it for, before you buy one.

Also suggest you get involved with the Local Ham Radio Club, there are many good Elmers (volunteers) around that are willing to assist You. Also many different aspects of Ham Radio, You can get HOOKED real easy...lol I encourage you to continue on upgrading on you license, this gives you much more frequencies to operate on.
