Creating a Monster

Following Xeo's countermilling tutorial I threw this little project together... (Xeo's tutorial ------> http://keypicking.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7647&p=66485&hilit=countermilling#p66485)

Thanks to Jeffmoss26 for the 6/32 setscrews and of coarse Xeo for the tutorial and some ideas that will make the lock even more evil in the future.

And now I present you with the Corbin Monster Ring v1.0 :P

The pin configuration will get a bit nastier once I see if I can pick this beast as it sits...
Future configurations are likely to include LAB spools, T-Pins, and maybe some home brew serrated spools.

Re: Creating a Monster

Thank you everyone for the kind words about the beast...
I just spent the crunchiest 22 minutes of my life getting it open; now to try to get the time down a bit and post to youtube, then replace the build up pins with thin lipped LAB spools and T-pins and maybe serrate the key pins while I'm at it to make it a true masochists dream. :whip:
This lock is way too much fun to keep to myself so at some point this coming summer maybe I'll throw it into a pass along or something like that :D

Re: Creating a Monster

I guess you really enjoyed those 22 minutes! I'm curious about how was picking it, I may end up tapping one myself.

Congrats :-)

It's a LOT of fun to pick tons of heavy crunching, popping and thunking. I found and still find it very challenging and a great aid in learning to vary my tension and backing off just enough to drop a single pin down. Trying to read the difference between a set and just another serration in the milling has proven difficult in this lock and I'm continuing to work on that.
Heres a fail vid link -----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szcmjyt1IVw
This was probably video attempt #3, by the end I was so frustrated I was just jabbing and hoping I was going to upload the attempt before this one but by minute 10 I was saying things to the lock that would make the devil blush lol.

Re: Creating a Monster

Nice idea! gonna be even nastier to pick once you get some more evil pins in there.

If you have em, try a ball bearing in each stack. I have a Russwin like that.
