Keymark Finally Picked

Ok guys it took me about 2 weeks of trying. It seems I wasn't using proper tools with this one. Oddly enough, I actually picked this thing with a Peterson Postal profile carbon steel pick (the one in the pic) and TOK tension. It seems unlikely, but the Peterson pick seemed to exploit a flaw in the tight keyway and allowed extremely precise and sturdy access to each individual pin. Anyone who has picked one of these knows what I'm talking about. Anywho, here it is in the open position. It is a completely assembled lock with all 6 pinstacks. It only took me about 30 seconds to pick it once I put that particular pick in it. Nothing beats PETERSON TOOLS.

PS. Thanks LockSmithArmy for the lock. Now that I understand how to pick it, It ain't that hard. But no... I didn't pick it in less than a week so I'm not a better man. LOL

Nice! I've yet to pick mine, getting individual pins is a real pain... do you think a gem would work just as well? MIght have to give it another shot

Great Job whizdumb81, they are tough locks to pick. Do you have a key for yours?

No, unfortunately, I do not have a Key for this lock. I purchased it from LSA in his recent huge sale. I would love to see what the key at least looks like on these locks. They must be crazy ridiculous keys.

And to answer Solomon's question... I have tried both my Peterson gems (regular carbon and government steel but not the slender) on this lock.. They will not work with the technique I just described and they are both a little too wide to use on the key-way. I do not have a slender gem, but I would venture a guess and say that if any other Peterson pick would work...it'll probably be that. Good luck with your Solomon. Keep us posted.

The gem would probably work too just fine.

Re: Keymark Finally Picked

Hey LSA no Prob man. Without you and your help I wouldn't even have one of these locks.

I just spent a little time making a diagram to attempt to explain why you need a small deep hook to do this. It revolves around hitting the pins directly from the bottom instead of trying to twist and bend the pick in the key-way to get them individually. It's pretty rough but it explains why it works.

i tried the gem alot with no real luck... this postal fits into the pin chambers in the plug... one more reason to hang onto all the stupid picks you end up with

Re: Keymark Finally Picked

Son of a bitch! I forgot about this! I'm glad I was looking for a pic of a keymark to show someone... I've been having a hell of a time with the back pins on the ones I got from Ed. I'm thinking maybe I should get one of those postal picks or make one that is close in profile. Thanks whiz!
