TrioVing Pins

In all their sexyness. These are slightly different than the "VingCard" :angspool: as in these have a Lockwood style bevel on them which does greatly affect how they pick, it makes them a living nightmare actually.

Re: TrioVing Pins

xeooooooOOOOOOOooooOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo!!!

If YOU say these are nasty... they MUST be :whip: So a few nights ago I begin experimenting.
I've home brewed some in hopes of beefing up Kwiksets. I've decided it's really not my place
to tell people they have shit on their front door, lol... so maybe I can at least make it better.
Seems 3 outta every 4 homes around here have Kwikset. If ya can't beat em'.... join em'.

The first few I did I made from Kwikset's standard .180 driver.
Can be a little tricky starting out with such a short pin though.
So for this particular one I tried starting out with a #6 keypin.

Image
With more of the pin in the dremel chuck, it gave me a little more control.
I was then able to form the majority of the pin before flipping it over to
finish off the other end (being sure to bring it to the proper length).

Image
My camera started fuckin' with me at this point... but you get the idea.
Much experimenting to be had yet - but not too shabby for a first draft.

Image

I think the bevel on either end could be a bit deeper yet. Also, the angles on my barrel are more
extreme than the pins in your photo. I'd imagine a shallower barrel may be just as effective. And
actually, it would be easier for me to produce than what I've done here having to dig in so deep.

This pin design gives me a number of ideas. Slight variances while keeping the same basic shape.
Any thoughts Xeo? Or is this pin about as wicked as can be as is? For example; a serration on
either end rather than the bevel. Or two serrations towards the middle - one on either side of
the peak. What if I made the top end a smaller diameter or even a ball... allowing the pin to
tilt into an even deeper false? How about a T-pin style for the top? I could very easily do
that rather than cutting down the other end left over from the #6 pin (middle picture).

Re: TrioVing Pins

Those are very, very well done! Can you give a break down of the tools used? Or better yet send me a challenge kwikset with only 4 of those pins. I think that's all I could handle. Awesome job.

Yeah, for sure. I'll tryn' do both. But don't hold your breath, lol. It'll be a bit.
I don't quite have every day all day to play around just yet. But soon I will :D

EDIT: I will say I used a very small triangular file for the majority of shaping.

Re: TrioVing Pins

The 'nice' thing about the Trio-Ving pins is that you can put in a full load, and the key will still work just fine.

My thought was that for true, over-the-top-evilness, the two of you could team up. Make pin-in-pin Trio-Ving driver pins. And toss in some serrated key pins, too. What do you say, Xeo... wanna try some pin-in-pin trampoline pins?

Holy hell Selim! It's the least I could do! I'm still in debt to you up to my ears
after that package you sent me some time ago. Making a few pins for ya
wouldn't even begin to even the score, lol... but I'd be happy to if you're
serious about putting some home brews up in that lock.

This is still very much so in the experimental phase and will probably be a bit
before I'm comfortable sending them out and about. But pm me sometime.

I'm not familiar with TriVing, so a quick discussion before I start making some for
yours would probably be worth while. Specs and so on. And given the insane
bittings you create... lol... balancing pinstacks might be in order? I dunno.

Re: TrioVing Pins

Awesomely sexy pins. Gave me an idea to make a thread of home brew pins. If it hasnt already been done :)
and for the record put me down on the list for some of those pins, if there even is a list :)
