Kwikset Smartkey SC1 decoder

Got my hands on one of these!

Then made a decoder. The angle of the mirror is at approximately 30 degrees instead of 45 degrees like the old ones. Makes me wonder if Kwikset will use this design with their standard KW1 smartkey locks soon. Thus making all the expensive decoders currently on the market obsolete.

As far as I can tell the lock does not actually support depths 0-9, instead only 1-9 are supported.

Yes I know I haven't been on the forums much lately, ..for the last several years. I am just a busy person and don't stop by often enough.

Re: Kwikset Smartkey SC1 decoder

Did you use mirror tape for the mirror piece on that key? What power magnifying glass?

Re: Kwikset Smartkey SC1 decoder

The mirror is made from a shiny face cap used on automotive locks. Roughed up on one side, superglued to the key, then slowly and carefully filed down to size. I will need to try the reflective tape.

The magnification is 3 times. Any time I've tried a higher magnification, it always ends up out of focus.

Is there a camera scope under the LED light? I can't see one so i'm assuming no.

Thats Awesome!!

Might have to give this build a try!

Wonder about rigging up a usb boroscope instead of the magnifier?

Re: Kwikset Smartkey SC1 decoder

I have that usb scope. It's a neat little gadget, but everything is a bit blurry when used for decoding the SmartKey. Fine for Kwikset depths but maybe not sufficient for SC1?

Those decoders are expensive and look dummy proof from the videos I've seen. That will be interesting to find out.

Neat stuff as always FF! Glad to see you on here :)

Re: Kwikset Smartkey SC1 decoder

That is very interesting. I'm kind of wondering when LockTech will make as SC1 key blade for their KW1 decoder -- I know LPL has been talking with them about this. I do believe that depth 0 is used and am not sure why you think it is not
