Help with hard reset LAGARD 3260 safe lock and 33E keypad

Calling all experts. I can’t stand the 10 minute delay that was programmed on my Lagard 3260 lock. The lock is dated 2002. I contacted Lagard and they said I can ship it in to them and that they would reset the lock and remove the time delay for about $50. However, I’m aware that I can short the lock myself (hard reset) which will take it back to default settings. I’ve tried several times unsuccessfully. The steps I’m taking are indicated below and I’ve also included links to photos of my setup. Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong. Lagard tech support was helpful to an extent. However, the technical service rep told me that they weren’t allowed to tell me exactly how to do a hard reset.

1) unplug lock from keypad
2) unplug solenoid
3) Apply short to the two jumper holes (I’m using a staple because a paper clip wouldn’t fit in the holes)
4) with short applied, plug in keypad and insert batteries
5) press #5 key 6 times (lagard tech told me this)
6) listen for 20 beeps to know it’s been reset (lagard tech told me I would hear 20 beeps)
7) new manager code will be 555555

Questions: will a paper clip work as a short? Does the short have to fit inside the jumper holes or can I just touch a paper clip to the top of the holes? Do I have to remove the solenoid and system board, or is unplugging the solenoid as shown enough?

Try this:

-Leave the keypad and solenoid plug in.
-Remove both batteries.
-Short the two contacts. A staple is fine as long as it conducts electricity and makes contact with both holes.
-re-install battery. (one is enough)
-Hit 555555.
-Remove battery.
-remove staple.
-re-install battery(ies)
-Test lock. Should be set to 555555 OR 123456.

I too experience some that wouldn't reset. Don't know why.

Thanks for the help. Do you think that doing this reset will remove the time delay from the lock, or am I just wasting my time?

Not sure.
Worth trying though, it doesn't take much time.

Can I hold a paper clip between the jumper holes while doing this? Will I get electrocuted? Also, in your experience, will the keypad beep 20 times like the lagard tech said it would? Is there any audible indication from the keypad that this process worked?

Thanks to everyone who responded. IT WORKED! I'm shocked, but it actually worked. I got it working on the second try with a staple. I reset the 555555 code to a new combination. Now my only questions is, when I enter the correct combination on the 33E keypad, what am supposed to see happening on the 3260 lock? For example, right now the lock itself is projected from the case body (I assume that's the locked position). When I enter the correct combination, does that lock rotate into the case (opened position)? The keypad is clearly accepting my code with 2 beebs, but I don't see anything happening to the attached lock. Keep in mind, I don't have this setup installed on the safe, it just sitting on my desk.

It's a roller bolt.
Press on the flat side and it will pivot inside the case.
It does not self retract.

WORKS LIKE A CHARM!

Worked on a LA Gard 3040-DB lock with I think 33e dial.

You know you have the right combo when it beeps twice. If it beeps two times I think that is an incorrect attempt.

"You know you have the right combo when it beeps twice. If it beeps two times I think that is an incorrect attempt." Is it me or does this read funny? Is there a difference between "beeps twice" and "beeps two times"?

I stopped thinking about this when my brain overheated and shut down. Will not think again about this problem!
