Opening a weathered amsec depository safe

I was at my local scrapyard/surplus yard today, seeing if they had any old locks or if they needed some filing cabinets open and today, they had an older amsec depository safe come in. The safe is weathered looking, but it still appears to function. I tried the dial and it moved easily when it was not moving the wheel pack. When I moved the wheel pack, it felt like something was corroded as I had to put in some effort to move the wheel pack. I could clearly feel contact points though. Will I have an chance of being successful opening this? I it only has an SG group 2 on it.

Would like to see a photo of the Safe.
maybe it has a key bypass lock.
Is it a mechanical dial?

Yes, there is always a way in.

AFAIK its a 6735, I'm just wondering if the roughness I feel when turning the dial will hinder manipulation.

Re: Opening a weathersafemsec depository safe

With the drive cam moving freely & the presence of CPs, sounds like the lever is good.

Before attempting to manipulate it, I would spend some time on the wheel pack....
Are all the flys intact? Is each wheel moving independently
from the others and properly picking up the next one?
Determining this might prove very difficult though given the roughness you've described!

Altashot has used a plunger to work lube through the dial into the lock before. Might be an option.
If possible, set the safe on its' back so the dial is facing the sky. Put the lube between the dial
and dial ring, and force it through with the plunger. If it works, you'll not only be able to be able
to determine if manipulation is an option, but the manipulation itself should be much smoother.

I like the plunger idea! Definitely would have to set the safe on its back. Wonder how that would work on a safe with a semi-hollow core. There is so much to learn here! Love this place.
