PHOTOS of 2-handled safe.....finally

Here they are. After 1 month I got photos. Notice the 4 holes near the dial area. These resulted by the current owner removing the bolt heads and then drilling to about a 1" depth. Why? I don't know ---but he recalls the bolts always being there when the safe was in his grandfather's store. It's apparent that there must have been some "fix" to the safe many years ago. The 50 numbered dial binds ...either direction. Both handles move in either direction.

not mine.i was asked by the owner to ID/open it. i'm at the ID part of it now.i have never seen a 2-handle safe such as this. i sent andy at 'all experts' a photo to help in the ID.until then, any guesses to the maker. to me it looks Hall-like.

That is a neat old beast!
I've never seen one with 2 handles like that either.
I agree with you, the handles and the hinges do look like they belong on a halls...
When you get it open, show us the inner workings, I wanna see...

Well, Andy at 'allexperts' thinks it MAY be a Herring. Not a sure thing but it may lead me in the right direction. I found a 50 numbered dial Herring in McOmbie's Safe Opening Vol.4,page 106 and that safe has a Dexter lock. Just wondering if I should assume that a Dexter is in the 2-handled safe. How about it, any thoughts?

What was the four bolts holding in place ? hard plate ? or lock this needs to be investigated as the dial maybe the only thing standing in the way from a opening !

owner can't remember what the inside door panel or anything else for that matter, looked like.
