I will do a presentation about lock manipulation in April and I am looking for short Hollywood movie sequences as illustration. I can find only the Kremlin Letter snippet where a lock is manipulated with feet. In Moonraker is a scene with a small x-ray device, but I can't find it online. And I can't find anything classical with stethoscope and clicking sounds. Any pointers?

I don't think that scene will be useful to you.
I saw the film again a couple of years ago. The x-ray device shows a S&G6730, but the safe itself is a 3 letter clicker lock.

I think "The Italian Job" had a fairly realistic representation.

Where are you doing your presentation ?

I am looking more for the unrealistic representations as a sample what is not working. (My favorite is still in The Kremlin Letter.) The Bond samples are quite good for this purpose although the stethoscope is missing.

I am doing it in Hamburg end of April. I just noticed it is completely booked. 65 people. Wow.

The James Bond ones are IMHO the best. A tiny bit realistic, but not to much.

50 ... If it were a real opening, I would say someone put the spline key into the wrong slot. But is a movie and they try to show some magic dialing. The Bond movies somehow show how it works even so it would not work in reality.

I hope that in your talk, you discuss how hollywood feels an intense need to add clicking noises to lock dials being turned.

No, not really. Main topics will be "How does a lock work" and "How can a lock (6730) be manipulated". Basically what is written in the books squeezed into 1 1/2 hours and illustrated by some self-directed movies. Probably at the end a bit about manipulation protection and at the beginning some safe folklore.

Reasonably well. Sadly the sound did not work. So I had to describe the clicking sounds.

I'm doing pretty much exactly that talk at OzSecCon in a month - although I have to jam it into an hour, plus a hands on workshop afterwards for those interested. Really looking forward to the challenge of starting with a room full of guys who little or nothing about the 6730...and lighting the fire in at least a few of them.

How about "Thief" with James Caan. Mostly he drills or burns safes but maybe there's a picking scene. The opening is great, I remember that much.
