La gard 3390 - downgrade to group 2?

Hi,
I'm contemplating trying out the lock manipulation, but I can't find any reasonable group 2 lock around here (just taxes and mail cost more than the lock itself).
But I can buy 3390, which is unfortunately group 2m; I wander if it would be possible to "downgrade" it to group 2 (removing the tomahawk?) for the purpose of learning the manipulation...
Thank you for your help...
Kind regards,
Michal

Ps. I know about Sparrows vault, but it would cost more than a brand new lock with the dial and I also keep hearing about quality problems that cause problems manipulating it...

It is not that easy to change the 3390. You need to replace this tomahawk with a spring, that directly pushes the lever down. That can be ugly. The drive cam is also different from the standard Group 2 locks and the result may vary.

Did you look on ebay for used locks?

Hi,
thank you for the quick answer...
To be honest, I've never tried ebay (for some reason I have it associated with scammers), but looking there now I see only offers from US and none of them ships here (plus the customs would make it really fun)...
I tried looking for La Gard 3330, S&G 6730 - is there any other reasonable lock to start on?
Thank you for your help,
Michal

Thank you very much for the list - will check if I can find any of them...
And I live in the Czech Republic - as they say the little country in the heart of Europe.
Kind regards,
Michal

Re: La gard 3390 - downgrade to group 2?

The Czech republic has a small but very active security hobbyist community, and there are some guys into safe lock manipulation.

If you are interested I can put you in touch with someone there, pm me if you want to know more.

Best wishes,

Michael.
