New practice lock recommendation

Hello,

So i opened my s&g 6730 lock. I am looking to get a cheap lock off of ebay and was wondering if anyone had recommendations as to what kind. Should i get another s&g (different model) or should i go with a lagard to get more of a variety?

Congrats! I followed the 6730 with the S&G 6642, which will be very similar to the 6730 but with the addition of false gates, and after that the LaGard 3330 which adds a bit more of a challenge with false gates and the notorious LaGard wheel drift. I really enjoy manipulating the LaGard. I'm going with the S&G 6731 four-wheel next, and after that I think I'm going to try a 6630 with the nose roller. For me it's working as a nice gradual progression, adding one feature at a time, but of course it's all up to you to decide how much you want to challenge yourself and what you can handle without becoming frustrated. You could also consider a Diebold 177 or a Big Red CDL-3 or whatever other group 2 you can find for a good price on ebay... they've each got their own quirks and unique challenges, so you can't really go wrong, and it might take some time to find a great deal on a specific choice.

Thanks for all the good info. You are right about using what is available. I found a lagard 3330 on eBay for 25 bucks so i decided to go with that. Interesting enough someone is trying to sell a lagard 3330 with a s&g dial and face for cheap.

So my new practice lock came even ealrier then i expected. It came disassemble already which will make it easier to mount but more i want to tinker with it.

Before i put it together does anyone have any tips on things to watch for during assembly?

Also after a quick peak inside it does not look like there are any extra security measures or the ability to change the combination.

Check your box again maybe you overlooked the "Change Key". Many Youtube videos on changing La Gard combo instructions.

Qadruple checked, there is no change key with it. Actually the joke fire the change key is not perfectly round either. Looks like there is some metal flash from the factory

If you're impatient and don't want to wait for a change key to arrive, you can make one out of a large nail. Just grind it into a half round shape with a bench grinder or belt sander. To check size make sure it fits in the change key hole, then it's small enough. Then grind the clearance point.
