LaGard 1800 group 2 problems

I have a LaGard group 2 4wheel 1800 series safe lock, but when I insert the (correct) change key, the key does not want to turn...?

check the key is going deep enough to clear the back plate. if it is then it's probably just stiff, has it turned okay in the past?

It's a new lock, it is still set to the factory combination, the key does go in all the way (to the little nipple dent in the casing), but it just does not want to turn at all...?

if it's a new lock and definitely clearing the plate, then you're just being shy cause it's stiff. give it a little back turn to break any jam then turn it forward, like cracking a seized nut. do not use any lubricant.

or open up the lock and use the key or a screw driver to open and re lock the first wheel then wheels 1 & 2, and then the whole lot.
