My New Sargend and Greenleaf 6642

I've been following some of you spinning and started to feel the need of a new toy. Thanks to a fellow member suggestion I got a new one at a good price.





Here are a couple pictures of the false gates, one on the opposite side of the true one, and four others at different angles, opposed to each other. I know There are specific numbers/angles these are located at. I'll make a stand, mount the lock, check them and report here. In the meantime enjoy those pictures. It'll take some time for me to start playing with it.

Nice! What are those little gold nubs in the the middle of the false gate under the change key hole? Do they show up when you graph? Maybe could be used as another landmark to figure where the true gate is?

Good eye! They are on the opposite side of the true gate, so if you happen to notice them in a gate signature ---_._--- instead of ---___--- you know the true gate is 50 numbers apart.
I think they have something to do with the change key hole mechanism. I'll look at them when I get home and let you know.

Are all three wheels with 5 false gates? What is the number after the 6642?

For mounting I suggest to use a brass cam from a different lock to reform the threading.

Yes, all the three wheels have the same 5 false gates, all in the same position. I see no other number after the 6642, I'll take a better picture of the sticker for you to see it.

Thanks for the suggestion about the threading, it would be a shame to ruin the black paint on this shiny new cam!

There is no black paint. It is all solid, black plastic.

Is the cam all plastic? I guess they had their good reasons to change the cam material. I would have preferred a brass one. Never mind.

So here are the stickers, it's a 6642-001



And here are the false gates with the spot in the middle in their normal state



Same ares with the change key inserted and rotated, it makes them disappear



Here is a graph I made around the same area to see if it was possible to notice the dots. It's the Left contact point. I just took some notes and made the graph now. I must have misinterpreted something because the numbers are confusing. Here is the graph anyway. I'll check again what's under the fence at Left 97, there should be the dotted false gate. No trace of it. Maybe because the wheels aren't perfectly aligned and the dots are too wide to let the fence drop more and reach the bottom of the false gate around them? Dunno. I'll see when I get the combo changed, the lock mounted and start manipulating.

Ok, my 6642 is also a 6642-001. Interesting.

For the dot you could park w1 and w2 at the real gate and graph then the false gate. I would try to graph it more fine grained, e.g. every halve number.

Having two false gates together is a "tell".
The change hole is either just ahead or behind depending of direction of rotation. Spin W3 alone and graph, spot the 2 false gates. Add 50. Bingo, true gate.
Could it be that easy?

On this type of wheel there are two times two gates with a distance of 10. On one of these pairs is the true gate. So a pair alone is not a sure sign for a true gate. You have to either try the alternative or find a third gate and deduce from this if your pair is the good or the bad one.

If I remember correctly, with the true gate at Left 51 the false gates are at Left 70,5, 89, 2,5, 21, 41. I'll double check these numbers later because I'm not sure I got them right.

The problem I foresee is tagging all these numbers to the correct wheel and distinguish between all the ups and downs of a graph with 6 gates for each wheel, so 18 gates all around the graph. I'd like to start manipulating but unfortunately I can't right now.
