I helped a semi retired locksmith with this vault a few weeks ago. it was built in 1903, bank closed in 1938, hadn't been opened since then until a month ago. I didn't help to open it, just made sure no one could get locked in. the place is being remodeled, and they want people to see the work of art. I have a ton of pictures

I love looking at big vault doors. They scare the hell out of me when I'm working, but I like looking at them.

Would love to see more pictures.

Holy crap that's some amazing workmanship.
Is this in 'as found' state? or was everything cleaned and polished up?

spyder, it was wiped down with a rag. It is going to be buffed out by a car body body guy who is also into this stuff. It will be put on display in what ever store they put into the space the vault is in.

if you look close, you can see the glass door that covers the bolt work. The glass door also locks in place. - sorry about the body body thing in my last post. It's 5:00 am, and I'm kind off groggy

I think it's a shame there isn't that kind of artistic pride in workmaship on safes and vaults anymore. That is beautiful work.

The reason is probably that people do not want to pay so much for safes.

Martin, this is not a safe, it's a vault. There are 6 safe locks to open to get inside the back section. there are three seperate spaces all lock up to get into.

This is a first look photo. from my friend, and he lives 4 miles away.

Then let me correct my posting:
