Re: What can you tell me about this wall safe?

I just got a look at this beauty! Excellent restoration. I will add but one thing, several times this is referred to as a "wall safe", I don't believe it is. It is most likely a cash box out of a larger records container. This used to be a popular option for folks. One safe could serve two functions, without the expense of making a large record container burglary resistant. Anyway I think your uncle will be stunned, it is gorgeous!

That's an interesting concept. One that I hadn't considered. That may explain no markings of any sort. It has an anchoring hole on the back side. I don't know if that adds credence to either application.

I saw my uncle today and he is quite pleased. He hadn't noticed it when he came home on the evening I stashed it there as it is around a doorway. In the morning he spotted it on his way to the kitchen. I'm sure it will be a topic of conversation when he has visitors. He hasn't locked it yet as he has been practice dialing it to build confidence that it will open. I told him no worries, I can always drill and punch the lock bolt like had happened in the past. I measured the hole location, just in case.
