Re: Chubb combination lock fail

The dial ring has a label saying "made in China" on it.
It kinda feels like it too.

Some background on the safes where that lock would have been installed:

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

Well I think after an hours dialing im paying more attention to detail. My eyes are not as good as they used to be. I think a magnifying would be a great help for this job. I will try again later in the week.

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

Is it this lock? http://www.sargentandgreenleaf.com/prod ... 41-series/

I think the difference to the 6730 is the cheaper price (due to cheaper materials) and the higher convenience for users of all kinds (wider gates, so you don't have to dial so precisely).

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

I think most of the Liberty branded locks are S&G 6741, tho I've seen a few with 6730... 6741 has a 1.5 digit dialing tolerance, 6730 has a .5 digit. I think they actually use the same wheel stack (tho I could be wrong), but the cam wheel and fence arm are cast in the 6741 and milled brass in the 6730... I suspect the tolerance difference is there.

I watched a you tube video put out by S&G The guy said brass lever arm +/- 0.5 digit. Zinc coloured lever arm +/- 1 digit.

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

The actual width is probably about +/- 0.75 and 1.25.

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

I need some rookie help. These are my two efforts at graphing the S&G. I was probably more into it when I was trying again tonight.
Anyway, I felt the 22-25 area. The 41-45 area. The 63-65 area, and I know its a three wheeler but the 70 something area is also showing some changes.

For the guys with experiance it this sort of thing, am I in kinda the right direction so far.?

Is it now just a case of randomly working throught the numbers ive roughy chosen till it opens.?

Or have I to carry out some more diagnostics, to narrow it down.
Thanks in advance.

The rat.

Amplify the area around 22.5.

Cheers :)

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

Yes, amplify around 22.5. Try to measure 1/8th. Locate wheel if 22.5 looks like a gate. Maybe scan w3 with w1 and w2 parked at 85.

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

Hey @ Martinhewitt, thanks for the advice, this is quite a work out for my dyslexic brain. I followed your advice. Parked W1 & W2 out of the way at 85 scanned wheel Three, and its dipping at the 22.5 area.
My home work for tomorow. Sould I just park wheels 1 & 2 from 100 to 0 and graph wheel 3.?

Re: Chubb combination lock fail

Amplify around 22.5 with w1/w2 still parked at 85. I do it with halve steps, i.e. 20, 21.25, 22.5, 23.75, 25. You may omit 20, 22.5 and 25 as you already did measure it, but it is especially at the beginning probably more precise to do all the measurements. Do the w1/w2 parking around right and rotation of w3 for this left so that you get the natural direction for w3. Then use a number in the middle of the lowest region for w3, i.e. if 21.25 and 22.5 is the bottom, than use 22.

The next graph would then be w1&w2 around right, w3 left at the number you found. If you found a gate look at what wheel it is. If you did not find a gate park w1 and and scan w2 only with w3@the number.

That is at least what I would do with my little experience.

Btw. the lock arrived the last days! Thanks! Will first have a look and then try to adjust a pick.
